Laughable...

SCI-FI sent me the following link with the headline of "Your tax dollars at work":

A Heroin How-To: New York City offers junkies guide to successfully shooting up

JANUARY 4--Nobody can say that Mayor Michael Bloomberg isn't a friend to New York City junkies. The Bloomberg administration is distributing a 16-page brochure offering heroin users 10 handy tips when it comes to shooting up.

SCI-FI's comment:

The mantra "Know your audience" means the author clearly knows how to use, but forgets that 99.99% of HEROIN USERS AREN'T GOING TO READ AN INSTRUCTIONAL PAMPHLET.

Such fucking stupidity wouldn't be half as bad if it didn't involve money from the public till.

See why this man has been my friend for the past 26 years?

I don't know what more I can add here. The raw, abject stupidity of putting out a "heroin how-to guide" is just breathtakingly idiotic. The only possible explanation is that someone's brother-in-law owns a print shop in Queens that was hard-up for business. I mean, how else do you explain it? You can't honestly tell me that someone about to open a vein for some horse is going to sit down and read a 16 page manual before riding the lightning?

What's next, a mini-series on "Don't Bogart that Medicinal Marijuana"?

That is all.

I read the handout. I think the best part is where they warn about using over the counter pain killers because it may damage your liver. Not a peep about the effing HEROIN!!!!

The Dealer's PAC must have made some signifigant contributions in the last election cycle. I understand that Bloombergh spent a Campain money like a druggie.

....I'm guessing they are giving these to the Dealer's Union Rep so they can be effectivly distributed to the clients. .... and shouldn't tip number 10 be tip number 1?

How about "If you absolutely MUST shake your baby" How-to.

How about a handy pamphlet how to safely set up a still and make your own liquor!

Or for us gunnies, a how-to pamphlet for converting guns to full-auto!

All these things CAN be VERY dangerous, and with proper how-to it could save lives!

And remember if it saves JUST ONE LIFE!

Oh FYI when Portland was starting to get a serious rash of Horse, and a former student of my Father's was found dead of an OD, I asked Dad how he felt about it.

His answer: "Heroin is a self-correcting problem."

His politics suck, but I love him so much!

That's been my opinion for quite a few years now; you see more old drunks than old junkies.

Yep, we have a junkie in the family right now (OD'd yet again Christmas day), He's a good kid when he's sober, but the evidence is pointing that his interest in sobriety is minimal. I've essentially said my goodbyes to him, as unless a miracle happens he doesn't have long.

Ok, enough of Debbie downer, BobS wrote this post this morning:

A dude almost blew up a gas station cooking meth in his car. I hear a lot of meth explosions, and such. Maybe a pamphlet to show how to safely cook illegal drugs!

Wait, so they have an instruction manual for shooting H and they make it 16 PAGES LONG!?

Only the government could manage that.

Unfortunately I've known some heroin addicts. It's highly unlikely they'd even read the panthlet, much less take it to heart.

Their mind is 2 track. 1. I'm high and don't have a care in the world. 2. How am I going to get my next fix.

There's not much room for anything else, and certainly not for some silly pampthlet

Like the ads for 1-800 numbers for people living on the streets, which are shown on cable.

Who's got VH1 Classic in their refrigerator box?

Or "Braille menus available - see manager for details".

While junkies probably don't read, pot smokers almost definitely watch TV.

"While junkies probably don't read, pot smokers almost definitely watch TV."

And tweakers are disassembling their TVs. So if you have a heroin addict and a pothead in the same apartment, they won't read, and they won't have a TV, either.

Government logic would then conclude that the How To brochure should be replaced with a TV spot, showing how to. Air it during family hours, too, just in case.
