Just Like Jolly Olde England...

Obama Supports DNA Sampling Upon Arrest
Josh Gerstein over at Politico sent Threat Level his piece underscoring once again President Barack Obama is not the civil-liberties knight in shining armor many were expecting.

Gerstein posts a televised interview of Obama and John Walsh of America’s Most Wanted. The nation’s chief executive extols the virtues of mandatory DNA testing of Americans upon arrest, even absent charges or a conviction. Obama said, “It’s the right thing to do” to “tighten the grip around folks” who commit crime.

Wrap your mind around that one, folks. Mandatory testing upon arrest. Not upon conviction, but merely upon arrest. Got your name wrong? Your DNA is permanently on file. Not convicted? Case thrown out? Mistaken identity? False arrest? It all doesn't matter - all your DNA belongs to us. What's next? Pre-emptive taking of DNA from "at risk" youths as proposed in Britain?

I wonder just how the Øbamabots are going to spin this one? Øbama's proving to be more of the same statist power-grabber as his predecessor, yet the howls of outrage are nowhere to be found. Warrantless wiretapping was bad under Bush, but collection of e-mail data is hunky-dory under The Øne. We're seeing, yet again, the many inversions those on the left have gone through now that it's their guy in the Oval Office.

Once again, I state: Imagine the outrage if George W. Bush had proposed this...

That is all.

Hmmm. Imagine having your DNA taken because you had a .22 case stuck on the bottom of your boot.

Aw, screw it. Why not just force hospitals to submit a DNA sample from every newborn? It would at least have the virtue of being an honest reflection of what they're after.

And David, yes I can.

Wasn't there something a while back about English authorities wanting to take DNA samples of anyone entering the country? Did they end up scrapping that idea?

I would never visit the UK in that event.
