It's Raining... Birds?

PISSED sent the following head-scratcher:

Mass La. bird deaths puzzle investigators

LABARRE — Hundreds of dead and dying birds littered a quarter-mile stretch of highway in Pointe Coupee Parish on Monday as motorists drove over and around them.

State biologists are trying to determine what led to the deaths of the estimated 500 red-winged blackbirds and starlings on La. 1 just down the road from Pointe Coupee Central High School.

There are some theories put forth in the article - unexpected cold snap or virus - but the real gold is in the comments. Suffice to say, it's on a par with the FEMA death camp/Bush ordered 9/11 lunacy - take a read, if you want to see how the unhinged portion of society is faring these days... It's kind of funny the lengths to which we humans will go to stretch credulity in our attempts to either understand phenomenon or attack our political opposites.

Either than or the Zeta Reticulons are perfecting their death ray and ZOMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!?!?!?!!!!1111111

That is all.

Arkansas had 5,000 birds die at once (all one species) on New Year's Eve, along with an estimated 100,000 fish (also all one species).

Interestingly, "preliminary necropsy results from several birds show that they died of "multiple blunt trauma to their vital organs," though what caused the trauma remains uncertain. According to Dr. George Badley, their stomachs were empty, so they weren't poisoned, and they died in midair, not upon impact with the ground."

Weird.

They think it could be fireworks, but no one is sure yet.

Between the birds and the fish dying en masse, I've been teasing my wife that it's the upcoming Apocalypse. Something to do with 2012.

She hasn't freaked yet... Check back tomorrow.

The USGS National Wildlife Health Center here in Madison, WI has preliminary results suggesting that no UFOs or conspiracies were involved- just illegal fireworks in AR, and an invasive parasite in other incidents.
