Beats Harsh Language...

Cleveland homeowner wounds young intruder before gun jams
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ted Ziolkowski's pistol jammed right after the 78-year-old farmer shot someone for the first time in his life late Thursday night.

He left a single hollow-point round in the chest of a 17-year-old Cleveland youth who was later arrested for aggravated burglary, for trying to break into the rental property Ziolkowski owns on Clement Ave., on Cleveland's southeast side.
The 17-year old hoodlum is "fighting for his life" but as yet has not joined the DGC. Let's count the multiple failures here. He'd been shot previously - at age 14, and if you buy the "he wasn't involved in the gang stuff when he was shot", I have a bridge to sell you. He was carrying a firearm, despite being too young for a CHL or even own a handgun. He was breaking and entering, and doing it while armed.

But that magical one more law would have stopped him, right?

Again, while I may be at risk of flagellating a deceased equine, the Bradys would prefer that a 78 year old man face an intruder more than a quarter of his age with his bare hands. Even better, since the 17-year old thug had no problem getting a gun, nor any moral qualms about carrying his illegally-obtained firearm in the commission of a crime, the draconian gun laws the Bradys would foist upon us would only have disarmed the 78 year old victim.

What, exactly, *was* a 17 year old thug with gang ties doing breaking into a residence armed with a handgun? Was he hoping to find someone that would bring it to a gun buyback program? Perhaps he was looking for a free trigger lock to secure it before he left it hiding under a bush in his apartment complex? Maybe he needed some late night gunsmithing? Or is it more likely he didn't want any witnesses since he was getting to the age where felonies start to stick?

In any case, our homeowner was armed with his own firearm, and while it got the job done, he got very lucky in this case. His shot placement was commendable - right on center mass - but a .32 ACP and no follow-up shot? Had his assailant been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or accompanied by friends, there's little question what would have happened to Mr. Ziolkowski without a second shot. And, of course, this story contributes to the "children injured by gun violence" statistic the Bradys fawn over.

And, of course, the young thug gets a candle...

That is all.

Go ahead and beat that dead horse. In fact, let me hand you a cat o' nine tails, that riding crop you're using is looking a little worn.
