911 IS A JOKE: Detroit citizens no longer rely on police as self-defense killings skyrocket
The people of Detroit are taking no prisoners.My first thought? Send me the DGC additions! Second thought: Hell yeah! Third thought: This is frightening, because this is the future of America here, folks. See the riots in the UK? The fires in Greece? Those aren't isolated incidents. They're not happening in a vacuum. We're one food shortage away from having the entire veneer of civilization stripped away and reverting to a Lord of the Flies existence where only the strongest, most brutal, and outright vicious survive.
Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies.
Those who would strip us of our Constitutionally enumerated right to keep and bear arms would throw us into the teeth of the wolves out there; trusting our lives and those of our loved ones to creatures that are not constrained by the ethics and morals of modern society. They do not have to live with the rules that they foist upon us - they have the gated communities and private armed security forces that are beyond the reach of the rest of us.
When the police response to a priority call in a city setting is measured in terms of 25 minutes or more, the police have abandoned that area. The closing line of the article says it all: "“Where else do the police come to your house after you’ve been robbed and ask you, ‘Why did you call us?’”" If that doesn't send a chill up your spine, it ought to. This isn't a desolate Wyoming town served by a county deputy 50 miles away; this is Detroit, a major metropolitan city. Citizens shouldn't be on their own - but they are.
And any guesses on how long it will take the lawmakers in Detroit to start cracking down - on those that dare defend themselves, I mean?

Remember, this is also the city where they're seriously considering shrinking the city limits, and buying up abandoned neighborhoods with the intent of tearing them down.
Heck, in rural Wyoming (and a couple of other states), the deputies assume the homeowners are better armed than they are! But yeah, when a formerly major metro area flops into the kazai as badly as Detroit has, well, I recall where John Ringo set the end of "Last Centurion." And RoboCop.

LittleRed1 is correct; I've spent time in Wyoming, and you would probably be safer committing a crime around the police than at some rancher's home; the police will at least try to take you alive.

"A World War II veteran said nobody helped him in the minutes after he was attacked and carjacked during daylight at a busy Detroit gas station and he had to crawl across a concrete parking lot to get help.
A roughly four-minute surveillance video shows 86-year-old Aaron Brantley struggling to get from the fuel pump to the gas station's door as people walked and drove by him Wednesday morning. The video was first obtained by the Detroit Free Press.
Brantley told The Associated Press said several people passed by him as he crawled, unable to walk because his leg was broken in the attack. The carjacker knocked Brantley down, took his keys and drove off in his car about 10:40 a.m.
“I was trying to go in … and see if somebody could call the police and an ambulance because I couldn't stand. I had to crawl — I tried two or three times to get up,” Brantley said Saturday. He said he was on way home from Bible study when he stopped to put gas in his 2010 Chrysler 200, which he recently bought to replace another car that had been stolen.
“People were passing me just like I wasn't there. … I was crawling and they just walk by me like I'm not there,” he said.
Brantley said as he approached the building, he asked a woman to open the door for him. He said at first it appeared she wasn't going to but she did and then kept walking. He found it distressing that nobody helped him."
