Dad arrested over daughter's gun drawing
Police arrested a Kitchener, Ont., father outside his daughter's school because the four-year-old drew a picture of him holding a gun.Again, reminder, this is Canada, where they don't have the Second Amendment (nor, apparently, any analog to the Fourth, either). It's still very frightening that - based on a drawing of a pre-schooler - someone can be arrested absent any evidence of an actual crime. Based on my kids' drawings when they were in day care/pre-school, I am 10 feet tall and have a smile through which one could pass watermelons. Apparently Canadian authorities would assume me to be a giant on Ritalin...Jessie Sansone told the Record newspaper that he was in shock when he was arrested Wednesday and taken to a police station for questioning over the drawing. He was also strip-searched.
This is the future the gun-grabbers have, where the authorities can upend a man's life based on a four year old's harmless drawing. She views her father as the protector of the family, keeping them safe from monsters and bad men (forgive her the redundancy, she's only four). That's a wonderful thing, and once all is said and done I hope her father knows he's doing everything right. It's a good thing that Canada is so free of crime that this is what the police force is reduced to - outright intimidation of Canadian citizens.
No, wait, this story proves that they're not citizens - they're subjects.
That is all.

Canada doesn't have a lock on being a nanny state when it comes to "child welfare" (or meddling, whatever you want to call it). My brother was detained and questioned by police when a teacher noticed his stepson had some marks on his skin that were "consistent with abusive treatment." Children's Services had the boy examined by a doctor while the police explained to my brother in detail what happens to child abusers in jail.
The doctor declared the marks were poison ivy, so the cops told my brother they had their eye on him and let him go.
And this was in Ohio, a supposedly free state.
This sort of thing is an artifact of the propensity of our western society to consider anyone even *accused* of child molesting to be the height of evil. This is true regardless of the truth or falsity of the charges.
I would remind everyone that just because someone says it - even if that someone is a child - does *not* make it so. Even a child molester is entitled to his rights and - in the US - the presumption of innocence in the face of the justice system.
The fact that these rights are routinely violated and the situation generally ignored by the press and public, (Or worse - actively encouraged), is what causes this sort of over reaction to happen.
PS: I had to refresh the word verification 4 times before I could get something legible enough to read. This new Blogger WV sucks so bad it causes thunderstorms.
According to the SCSon's early drawings, I am Obi-Wan Kenobi (the older version in episode IV). I still have the drawng.
As I said over at Sebastian's, this is ONTARIO, not Canada, (or at least my former part of it).
Back where I'm from, the cops support RKBA.
Good points Jay... sigh
