Victim Selection Fail

Heh. Just saw this on the local news channel. It's a good thing most criminals are this dumb...

Police: Masked Gunman Caught After Trying To Storm Home Of Duxbury Officer
DUXBURY (CBS) – A masked gunman who tried to get into the home of an off-duty police officer was captured early Tuesday morning, police said.
Duxbury officers were called to a home on Deer Path Road around 10:30 p.m. by an off-duty officer who lives there. He said he heard a knock on his door and when he opened it, he saw a man wearing a mask, armed with a gun, so he slammed the door shut.
I guess that's one way to handle those pesky home invaders. Either his door is bulletproof or he got lucky - the invader was looking for a quick score and nothing more. Kudos to the officer for the quick thinking in slamming the door shut - that's the kind of response that can break up a goblin's ooda loop and give enough time to get out of a bad situation. Wonder if he answered the door in his dress blues?

Here's the thing, though. I'll bet the response time was measured in seconds, and they were still unable to capture him without the aid of SWAT teams and state police. This was arguably the "best case" for a home invasion - the homeowner in this case had a direct line to the local PD, was able to call in a good description of the perp, and undoubtedly armed himself immediately to assist. And it still took a combination of local and state agencies to find him - and his accomplice got away.

I do have to wonder, though, on the over/under of whether there was a marked cruiser in the driveway of the home...

That is all.

...and thus leading to the question: how does a Deluxbury police office live in Duxbury on a Duxbury police officer's salary?
