Drunken teen killed by own ricocheted gunshot in southern Texas
MCALLEN, Texas – A drunk 17-year-old died in southern Texas after a bullet he shot at a butane tank ricocheted back and hit him in the head.
Israel Torres fired the shot with a semi-automatic handgun in the backyard of a home near McAllen, Texas, shortly before 11:30pm Monday night, The Monitor reported.I'm guessing he didn't actually shoot at the tank, but was screwing around and put the gun to his own head. I have strong suspicions that a .380 ACP ricochet would not be sufficient to penetrate skull, especially one that dense. The part about "Torres pulled out the gun's clip and turned to a butane tank" tells me he didn't turn to the tank, he performed the classic "hey y'all hold my cerveza and watch this" move.
Let's count the FAIL:
1. In the country illegally.
2. Underaged drinking.
3. Illegal possession of a firearm.
4. Failure to obey the rules of gun safety.
I liked especially how they were trying to determine if the father should face charges. YA THINK?
That is all.

Darwin will not be denied. One can cheat death only so many times before things align for a stronger gene pool.
Charge his ass, deport the WHOLE bunch and start over...
Either a self-inflicted GS or one of his buddies did it. I've been hit by .45 "bounce-backs" when shooting Pins. Raised a welt but that's all. A bullet looses a lot of velocity on the initial hit. I doubt a ricochet can do a 180. Bounce-back yes, ricochet no.

Shooting at a Butane Tank? I don't know how large a tank they're talking about (has to be big enough to cause a ricochet--if story IS true), but if it was actually propane v. butane, then I think there might be some "luck" that we're only discussing ONE PSGWSP death.
Well Jay, as my martial arts teacher used to say "you can't fix stupid".

One less person in the gene pool.

I only wrote up my own blog late tonight and wrote about the same incident. Then I saw you had also written it up and realized that I am not the only one who thinks along the lines we both came up with about no arrests being made. It amazes me that the police made no arrests. I would think that a charge of felony murder would be right at the top of the list. After all, a felony was apparently committed by an illegal alien possessing a firearm, maybe another felony to have discharged a firearm, thus anyone present with the 17 year old could be charged with felony murder in my understanding since he was killed during the commission of a felony.
That has got to be one of the most inept police departments I have ever heard of - no arrests - not even thinking of arrests in the near future! Wow. Not only were the three guys involved illegal aliens, I think the police must be aliens, from another world like Uranus (certainly not from mine anyway).
All the best,

I once had a .25 cal ricochet (I was shooting in a sand pit - it must have hit a rock) and hit me in the mouth. It landed between my gums and my lower lip. It did not break the skin or a tooth and there was no bleeding. I have doubts about this .380 story.
