Today's gun pr0n is a T&E gun from the good folks at Sturm, Ruger, & Co., Inc.:
Yes, that's one of the brand-new, just-introduced-this-year 10/22 Takedown model. It comes in a handy carrying bag that, coincidentally, looks like it would fit perfectly strapped to the passenger backrest of my Harley... I love the idea of a rifle I can bring on the Harley. Here it is in pieces:
I don't want to give away *too* much, but let's just leave it that on its maiden voyage, I literally took it out of the case, assembled it, and started shooting. Out of the box it was as accurate as you'd expect a 10/22 to be (very) and quite reliable - I put over 200 rounds of Federal bulk .22LR through it in one sitting, and it had exactly one stovepipe and no other failures. Heck, that's barely better than the average reliability rate of the ammo itself.
Putting it together is ridiculously easy - as is taking it apart. As long as the bolt is back, you simply pull on the takedown lever, rotate the barrel about 45ยบ, and it comes right apart. This is fantastic for storage, transport and cleaning - with it apart, you can run a boresnake down the barrel, spray CLP into the action and wipe it clean, and you're good for another 1,000 rounds.
It even comes with a standard Weaver rail that attaches to the pre-drilled receiver, although putting a scope/optic on it lessens the portability. This may bear a little investigation. As for holding zero, well, I took it apart a good dozen times during the course of my initial range trip, and while 4" at 25 yards isn't spectacular shooting, it's enough to know that the takedown model is no less accurate than its solid brethren.
I've had it less than a week, and I can tell that I am *really* going to like this rifle...
That is all.

I looked one over at a local fun shop. Interesting idea, and I can see the utility of having one tucked under the car seat.
"I love the idea of a rifle I can bring on the Harley."
How about a Henry Survival AR-7, the modern version of James Bond's "briefcase rifle" in From Russia with Love?
Took mine to the range for the first time yesterday. I am very disappointed - it shot 1" high at 25 yards, and Ruger did not include a small screwdriver to adjust the rear sight. I had to go back to my car to get one.
But, seriously, I'm hoping this is the start of a trend. A big trend. A REALLY big trend.
I've got a take-down Browning BLR in 308, a Baikal in 12 over 308, and a Savage 24V in 223 over 20 gauge, and I just loves me my take-downs FYI, L.L. Bean sells a take-down shotgun case that's just the ticket; I've got a couple of the older versions, haven't tried the current issue, but if the inside is like mine, it's great. Shoulder carry strap and everything; it lets the 24V ride behind the truck seat, and very few people recognize what the case actually is. No, it's not a 30 round Blastomatic, but it's both a 100 yard rifle and a 25 yard shotgun, and it's probably more of either than what's not behind the seat of your truck. Until you've used take-downs you won't realize just how handy they are. As always, YMMV.
I'd really like to see more manufacturers make take-down rifles. Jim West of Wild West Guns in Alaska does some terrific take-down conversions of Marlin lever rifles, and as soon as I win the lottery I'll be able to afford one.
I heard rumors of after market stocks that make it even smaller on take down.
See any yet?
I bought a non-takedown stainless 10/22 just before the news on this one was released - so I caught myself thinking about what might have been.
However, a big driver to my purchase was fitting a Tapco stock with a kid-friendly adjustable buttstock.
Anyone know if an adjustable-length stock is planned for the takedown model?
I did not realize this was MA-legal! Gonna have to put this one on the list!
A Tech Sight might be a good addition to that rifle. It's lower profile than a scope and not magnified (it's a peep sight) but it's a big improvement over the stock sights on my 10/22 Carbine. It's what the Appleseed Project recommends on their training guns, and they're simulating shooting man-sized targets out to something like 400 yards.
Orville,
The 30 round Blastomatic IS a take down rifle.
If I get one, it's getting either tech sights or the Primary Arms aimpoint micro clone.
