Friday Gun Pr0n #272

I was racking my brain trying to come up with a good candidate for my Friday gun pic, and, I have to confess, I came up short:

That's a Serbu Super Shorty AOW, which is normally based off the Mossberg Maverick or 500 shotgun, but in this instance is a Remington 870. This one's even shorter than the 14" Mossberg 590s ordered by the Department of Education! Took this cool picture at SHOT Show in January, and I've been waiting to use it for quite some time. You can tell the Northeast Bloggershoot is coming up and I'm excited about shooting libertyman's 590 again...

The Super Shorty has got to be one of my favorite "useless" guns - it's really no good for anything except "hey, check out what I got", but damn, is it cool! The funny part, for those of you clucking your tongues out there, is that AOWs are perfectly legal to own in Massachusetts (provided the Federal hoops are jumped through, of course).

So, to recap MA gun laws: The Browning Buckmark .22LR pistol is not "safe" enough for me to buy at a gun store in MA, but I can walk into any place that deals in NFA items and walk out with the Serbu. This is "common sense" gun control, where a 10 shot .22LR target pistol is verboten, but not a micro-shotgun. I should probably shut my wordhole now, before they fly into a panic and ban AOWs...

Anyhoo, today's gun pr0n brought to you by the insanely wonderful geniuses at Serbu, who have been known to loan out .50 BMG rifles... Hint hint hint...

That is all.

For various values of "walk out". After the CLEO signoff, form 4, etc.

But yes, that's the insanity - and the Serbu is on my short "want because WANT" list.

Are you sure about AOWs in Mass? And yes, having such a nasty looking device is fun, though harder to justify any other way. Maybe that's what AOW stands for too.

I would like to shoot one of those shorties.

But "NEEDS MOAR TACTICOOL!" Goes through my mind. How bout a rail, red dot, side laser, and drop leg holster?

Zercool,

Oh, of course. But I'll tell you what - it's still easier to get an NFA item in MA than a new Browning Buckmark from an FFL...

libertyman,

I'm almost certain about AOWs in MA - I know I looked into it a few years back after shooting your 590... :D

Stithjim,

The one based on the Mossberg 590 has the ability to add a rail (my 590 has a rail on it...).

There *is* a drop-leg holster available from Serbu, too... ;)

1) I would be happy to build you an AOW, and done properly it wouldn't need to go through a MA FFL - just direct to you.

2) MA allows *some* AOWs. Disguise-type AOWs (penguns, caneguns, phoneguns) are not allowed, but gun-shaped AOWs are okay.

I would say that I still prefer using the Best Knife for Hunting. Those guns sure is wonderful to have though. I think it would make a nice collection.
