Illinois state worker faked triplets to get extra food stamps
An Illinois caseworker who fabricated triplets so her boyfriend could receive extra food stamps was Monday sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Ebony Martin, 34, was employed at the Illinois Department of Human Services when she created a phony state file for her boyfriend, 38-year-old Keith Jones, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.Read that again. She committed more than $20K worth of fraud, yet was sentenced to the same sort of punishment you'd expect for jaywalking or perhaps littering (or second degree murder in Massachusetts...). 30 days for stealing nearly $22,000 in food stamps - in less than a year. That's a much better ROI than sticking up convenience stores, is it not? I'd really like to know why she got such a light sentence - that's not much of a deterrent to future scame artists, is it?
Then again, it's not like it was real money, right?
That is all.

Is it too much to expect that the wording suggests she was actually dismissed from her job?
As long as she kicked back a bit to her alderman, it's alright Jay.
It's just tax dollars... you know, kind of like play money really...
Sheesh...

How can you even eat that much food in a year?
I bet she got the light sentence so that she would not "turn" on any of her fellow workers. If she was doing it....then so where a couple of others.
I was always told: if you see one rat; expect about 20 more in the darkness.

Agree with Steve, and I'm betting she didn't even lose her job!
That article had to have been written by a real progressive. Not only was it very lacking in the factual info you would want to see, such as why the light sentence (maybe because she pled, maybe because she ratted out others, maybe because the judge was a screaming liberal), what happened to her boyfriend, and other such stuff BUT it also said this:
"The couple also sold some food stamps to friends and family members at half price."
only a friggin liberal arse wipe could say something like they sold food stamps at half price. Food stamps are free I(well not for the taxpayer but you get my drift). What the author should have said was that they sold them at half face value. It is a true liberal slant to imply that they had to pay for the food stamps and then they sold them at a loss at half price.
I am beginning to think the whole state of Illinois, likewise New York (wherein I reside) should be closed down for repairs.
All the best,

Were the three fictitious dependents able to vote? Just wondering...
She was fired.
@ Glenn - Don't shut down the whole state, just excise the cancer called Cook County.
