Look! Look! We're as Idiotic as NYC!

Found in e-mail, some MA "me-too" ism:

Policy Order Resolution
WHEREAS: High intake of soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages increases the risk of obesity and diabetes; and
WHEREAS: New York City has a plan to limit the serving size of soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages sold in restaurants; now therefore be it
ORDERED: That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to refer the matter of a ban on soda and sugar-sweetened beverages in restaurants to the Cambridge Public Health Department for a recommendation.
SEE!?!?!? We can be just as pig-headed and Nanny State Uber Alles as NYC! A bad idea worth pushing is worth pushing to the extreme, that's the Massachusetts way. Notice that they're not talking about large sizes, mind you; this is a complete and utter ban on all "sweetened" beverages in Cambridge. Bye bye Starbucks!

Gah. It certainly doesn't surprise me - Cambridge is pretty much the Berkeley of the East Coast. This move, though, is going to catch them by surprise, I think - people aren't going take having their half-caf mocha latte banned lightly. I suspect this might be the kind of significant overreach that might actually garner a reaction - because nothing irritates a progressive than having one of their sacred oxen gored..

Ah, Massachusetts, where a bad idea is not discarded, but emulated...

That is all.

They can't even be bothered to come up with their own reasons so they settle for "because New York City is doing it"? Cambridge isn't getting their money's worth from this bunch. Recall the lot of 'em.
