Holy smokes, this is one lucky kid...

Teen miraculously survives spear through his brain, speaks throughout ordeal
(CBS News) Sixteen-year-old Yasser Lopez is currently recovering from a freak accident in which a spear longer than 3 feet discharged through his head. Amazingly the teen survived, and his doctors explained the unusual case to media at a press conference in Miami on Monday.

CBS Miami reports that Yasser's survival may be a result of the spear miraculously missing the major blood vessels in the teen's brain.

No, seriously, look at this:

I'm a firm believer that everyone has their number. When your number is up, you're done. When it's time for your number to be called, it doesn't matter what precautions you've taken, how safe you've been, etc. - your time is up. When it's not your time, when your number isn't up, miraculous things can happen, like in this story here. Here you've got young kid who by all means should have been a statistic - he should have died within seconds of that impact. Yet the spear went right through his brain and didn't hit anything important, and he's got a cool scar and an amazing story to tell.

Hmmm. Went through his skull and didn't hit anything important - he's either really lucky, or a Democrat...

That is all.

Don't know if the boy is a Democrat but the parents who named him Yasser sure are.

That is indeed amazing. Have you ever seen the spear from a fishing speargun? They're pretty damned heavy, and leave the gun with enough power to punch through both gillplates on 100+ pound fish. What's more, they have expanding tips that open up to anchor them inside the fish -- see http://www.joediveramerica.com/page/JDA/CTGY/speargun_points_tips . It really is bordering on the miraculous that the kid survived.
