Man shot in Miramar home robbery attempt
A man was fatally shot in a Miramar home late Saturday during what police described as an attempted home invasion robbery.
Miramar police were directed to an apartment in the 6100 block of Southwest 27th Street by a 911 call around 11:35 p.m. after reports of gunshots, according to spokeswoman Tania Rues.
The story, as are most DGC addition stories, has scant information other than it appears to be a home invasion and that the goblin was shot by a visitor. The neighborhood is described as serene, so it's not likely to be drug-related or anything like that, so it goes on the count unless evidence surfaces to the contrary.
It does bring up an interesting point, though. Imagine this: You're at a friend's house for a summertime BBQ, perhaps a small gathering of friends for a nice summer's evening. Attracted by the large number of cars parked on the street, a couple neighborhood thugs decide to crash the party, flash a gun, score a bunch of wallets and watches. It brings up a fundamental question that should be addressed among friends beforehand in case the situation ever arises:
Do the visitors get first shot at the goblins, since they're the guests, or do manners dictate that the homeowner get first shot?
Dead Goblin Count: 302
That is all.

Jay G.,
You ask the tough questions.
I'm still thinking about the guest/home owner conundrum but want to add one more.
Should the gentlemen in the group dispatch the goblin or should they defer to the ladies?
It's the host's responsibility to deal with intrusive pests. Guests may offer covering fire, but should only draw if the host accepts, or if another intruder is detected while the host is dealing with the first one.
In all cases the host should offer the eldest guest first dibs on looting the body.
I'd say host, because he or she has the best knowledge of the environment (see:knowing what is behind your target). Senior competent guest is in charge of getting the kids out of the way if necessary, or can delegate that duty senior guest needs to provide backup. However, the host is certainly free to invite the guests to dispatch the critters. I do not believe that thank you notes are required afterwards, but I'll need to check with Emily Post to be certain.

+1 to host shooting first due to superior knowledge of the environment.
Further, the gentlemanly/ladylike thing to do is to quickly and effectively eliminate the threat to your companions, at which point gender roles may resume as normal.
The duty or honor of dispatching goblins being assigned to the host is interesting but....
If you are at a backyard gathering and a wasp lands on the table next to you do you notify your host? No. You swat the offending pest, tactfully and safely dispose of the corpse, clean any resultant mess, and continue with your conversation.
Mind you, due to the slightly more dramatic nature of swatting goblins I would suggest that good manners would dictate that you warn other guests before dispatching said goblin so they might protect eyes and ears. Also, if by choice of caliber or just the nature of the goblin there is much of a mess one should at least offer to pay for professional cleaning. As for expended brass, while it would be polite to offer it to your host for reloading I see no no great faux pas in policing it for your own use.

This is why it is incumbent upon all citizens to take their BBQ gun to the range on occasion and keep it maintained inside as well as out. Much like your spouse, it has purposes other than looking pretty on your hip.
I second what BGMiller stated.
If the rabid wolf attacks, you shoot first, and determine who gets the bounty later.
Don't cross the streams… It would be bad…
