Epic Scam...

Joseph in IL sends in this interesting story about how gullible people can be taken in easily:

‘Obama pays your bills’ scam claims more victims
A multistate identity theft scam that claims President Barack Obama will pay your utility bills appears to have widened. According to MSNBC.com, more than 2,000 customers in Tampa, Fla., fell for the fake offer last week.

The scheme was first reported in May, when Dallas-based Atmos Energy warned its 3 million customers in 12 states that scammers had been asking for Social Security numbers to enroll in the faux federal program. According to the pitch—distributed via email, Facebook, text message, phone and, in some cases, door-to-door sales—the government would pay a month of energy costs through credits offered by the Obama administration.

You know, this doesn't surprise me one bit. Heck, we elected a junior senator with 143 days of experience based on his promises to play Santa Claus with tax dollars. He offered us "hope" and "change" - never giving specifics, never being seriously questioned by the media about his plans, either. Folks honestly thought that Barack Obama was going to put gas in their car and pay their mortgage - why wouldn't he help with utility bills, too?

In a way, they got exactly what they deserved. There's an old adage out there, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, that applies here. You give out all of your information - information the government is supposed to have anyways - and in return they cut a blank check for all your utility needs for a month? Please! This is barely a step above the classic Nigerian scam. Give us all the information we need to empty your bank account in exchange for the promise of a few hundred dollars in utility bills. Sounds like a great idea!

On the flip side, though, the current administration has been little better than a 419 scam. From "Cash for Clunkers" - which managed to do little more than distort the used car market for a few years - to the billions poured down the "alternative energy" holes, all we've seen from this bunch is a lot of talk and very little action. GM and Chrysler are "too big to fail" - but the unions get paid first in the bailout. They've done "bait and switch" routines like expert flim flam artists, promising us a free puppy free healthcare if we pick the right shell vote for ObamaCare.

I do have to admit - when I first saw the headline, I thought they were finally coming clean about the 2008 election...

That is all.

The woman in the video will vote for Obama again so that she doesn't have to worry about her cardboard box or cat food.

I would add, we might consider renaming it as the "ObamaTax" not "ObamaCare" now.

Once again proving the adage, "The no cure for stupidity".
