Gun-buying enthusiasts crash firearms 'turn-in' event at Memorial Coliseum
It's a story about actual gun folk showing up at a "gun buyback" and offering folks money - real money - for their old guns. Pretty clever, right? But that's not what this post (or Stretch's e-mail) is about. No, it's about the cluelessness of the media with regards to firearms, as witnessed here:
Bruce Cook, among buyers standing on the periphery of a firearms "turn in" at Memorial Coliseum, purchased this wood-handled Colt revolver for $100. The barrel script shows it was once police gun.Here's the "barrel script":
Yeah. Colt Official Police. That's what they call a "police gun". Now, it's certainly possible that this was issued to a police officer - 70 gabillion of them were - but the "Official Police" designation is very much like the Smith & Wesson M&P - they're not sold only to law enforcement or the military; it's a name used to evoke images and make folks want to own the item.
We can thank our lucky stars it wasn't a Colt Anaconda, or the Oregonian would think that gun shows are being overrun by South American snakes...

Notice the author also points out that it's a "wood-handled" revolver. That's GOT to be rare!
