Twelve years ago, on this day, at this time, my life changed forever. A seven pound, six ounce bundle of baby boy was delivered to me, forever changing the world as I had formerly known it, and changing me from "Jay" to "Dad".
That's the most recent picture I have; it was taken at Christmas at my folks' house. He got a new remote-controlled helicopter and was flying it around - it struck me, then, how he stood between two worlds. He still loves toys, like Legos and the helicopter, but more and more he's looking for electronics, video games, and such. I walked past the Toy section at WalMart the other night, looking for gifts, and realized that most of the items there were too young for him.
It made me sad to think of the little boy who had grown up, but excited to think of the young man he's becoming.
Happy 12th birthday to TheBoy!!!
That is all.

Happy birthday to him, and you and your wife have done well Jay!
Did it hurt much? When the helicopter struck you?
Happy Birthday to The Boy

Happy birthday Master G!
I know how you feel Jay. My son turned 17 just a couple of months ago. We spent yesterday afternoon filling out college applications for him. I remember when he was 12 and moved out of his little room into the bigger room his sister had vacated. The little room still has Buzz Lightyear and Pokemon stickers on the walls. (Even though he knew he wasn't supposed to put up stickers.)
Did the ceiling fan cause any flight turbulence for that chopper?
Jay, love your site(esp. dgc). Happy Birthday, my baby turns fourteen today. I showed her a clip of a thirteen year old girl at a three gun competition and all she could say was "Winner!".
dad is the best job title in the world.
Ahh, hope he has a fabulous day!
It's his birthday and the Superbowl. He's a sports nut. He is IN. HIS. GLORY. Thanks for the kind words everyone!
When my first son was born, I was told that the child makes the man. He transforms you as much if not more than you transform him.
From what you've shared about your world methinks you're doing a darned fine job of helping him along the way.
....oh and we NEVER outgrow legos
Toy aisle?? Time for a nice 20 gauge over and under and some father/son skeet time. That's how and when I started! Plus Obama says its cool now!
