Blame Michael Z. Williamson for this one. He posted the original call for songs for driving on his Facebook page. I dug up this perennial favorite:
So, what's your favorite driving song?
That is all.

For road trips, anything by Bob Seger.

It helps if you have a blue car, and its one of the few driving songs that doesn't make you want to put your foot down.
O Fortuna.
Okay, okay, don't look at me like that. I also like Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover."
Radar Love is always good for tempting a speeding ticket.
This follows a thread on Garden and Gun magazine. For me, has to be "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers.
"Hot Rod Lincoln" by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen (surely one of the great band names of recorded history...)
"Shut Down" by the Beach Boys. Followed closely by "409."
Talking Heads: Road to Nowhere.
Gerry
Radar Love. My Wench is good for triple digits when it plays.
And while on the subject of "East Bound and Down" ... My Wench once owned a Bandit version of the Trans Am. There are still Florida troopers wondering "Where did that blonde go?"
While radar love is a hit...
How bout, Beep Beep, The Playmates
Eck!
A few of mine:
"Red Barchetta" by Rush.
"Highway Star" by Deep Purple.
"Faster" by Within Temptation.
"Fuel" by Metallica.
"Mona Lisa Overdrive" by Juno Reactor.
"Last Ride of the Day" by Nightwish.
Yeah, I've got some really varied tastes in music...
--Wes S.
"Highway Song" by Blackfoot
"I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar
and, strangely enough,
"William Tell Overture" by Rossini
(like "Radar Love", it's Smokey-bait)
"Choctaw Bingo" by James McMurtry.
"Highway Star" by Deep Purple.
Military/circus/band marches.
+1 on Wolf walker...
Green Onions by Booker T. and the MG's.
Peter Gunn theme by Henry Mancini.
Ride of the Valkyries, by any good orchestra.
The entirety of Dire Straits' Making Movies or Love over Gold albums. Jackson Browne, Frank Sinatra, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Sr. & Jr...
More relaxing tunes for the routine of going 80+ for hours upon hours in the wide open like Montana or parts of the western Great Basin. I think too many easterner's versions of 'driving songs' relate round the claustrophobic spaces in which getting to drive really fast is something exciting and unusual, instead of something normal and approaching the mundane.
I'm guessing that Oregon, where you can't (legally) do over 55 and aren't even trusted to pump your own gas, the road songs are more along the lines of the infernal Hamster Dance or something done by that awful purple dinosaur.
Thunder Road by Robert Mitchem.
Radar Love, Highway Star and most anything by Uncle Ted Nugent. It is a scientific fact that Ted increases your vehicle's top end by 3 to 5 moh.
