For the time period - remember, this is post-emissions and gas crises - the Cordoba and it's Dodge twin, the Magnum (yes, there was a Dodge Magnum before the hemi-powered wagon) had decent power (a 400 ci V8 putting out over 300 HP at a time when most V8s put out under 200) and had a T-roof available.

"Small" car indeed. But man, no one says "Cordoba" or "Corinthian" in the same way. He was the perfect choice for that ad.
The Cordoba was actually a fairly handsome car for that era. Lots of uuuugly American cars built during those dark, dark days.
