This Is Not How We Want It To Happen...

Bubblehead Les sends in an anti-DGC addition. This is not the way we prefer these go down...

31-year-old man shot dead during home invasion in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Police are looking for two men who invaded a home this morning and killed a 31-year-old resident. Six children were in the home. The home invasion occurred about 6 a.m. in the 3300 block of West 97th Street.

The man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. His name will be released once his family has been notified.
Apparently the media reports non-DGC shootings in much the same manner as DGC shootings. There's little specifics other than someone was killed - no indication that he knew his assailants or not; if it was a random invasion or targeted; just that a 31 year old man murdered in his home at 6 in the morning.

It brings to mind an interesting question, though. How alert are you in the middle of the night/wee hours of the AM? Those that have dogs have an advantage; ditto those with alarm systems. Of both methods, only the large dog stands a chance of slowing down someone determined to get in and do you harm - while the alarm might buy you a few seconds, even the best system isn't going to provide much warning if someone crashes through the front door...

There's more than likely more to the story - the assailants more than likely were familiar with the person killed and/or had reason to suspect he had money around the house. One thing's for certain, though - the many laws broken didn't stop them from breaking into the house and killing that man; it's amazing that there are people out there that think another law aimed at firearms would do any more to stop this sort of violence.

Even with the burgeoning Dead Goblin Count (which, BTW, I always like to see increasing...), it's obvious that the criminals out there aren't getting the message fast enough. They're still kicking in doors despite getting shot dead for their trouble; they're still trying to carjack people even in locations friendly to concealed or open carry; there seems to be a contingent that is going to break the law no matter what obstacles are put in their way.

This is why "gun control" advocates so infuriate me. They focus on the tool used by the goblin rather than the mindset that says "breaking into someone's home and killing them for a few dollars is a good idea". Rather than focus on keeping career criminals in jail (one of the few methods actually proven to reduce crime, go figure), they want to make it more difficult for the rest of us to arm ourselves against those who would seek to do us harm.

Nuts to that - make the goblin's life as difficult, and short, as possible...

That is all.
