Like You And Me, Only Immune...

TheAxe sends in this interesting "Only Ones" story from Ballmer Bawlmer (Thanks T-bolt):

City Officer Shot By Baltimore County Officer In Anne Arundel

A Baltimore City police officer is in Shock Trauma after being shot today by a Baltimore County officer.

What happened, you ask? How did one police officer shoot another? Was this some dramatic hostage situation? Tense bank robbery? Um, not quite...

The city task force officer was shot in the arm while serving a warrant at Pinecove Court and Pinecove Avenue in Odenton near the Severn line.

Okay, serving a warrant isn't always a walk in the park. Things can and often do go pear-shaped when bringing folks evidence of their own fallibility. Perhaps the person being served started shooting at the officers, and one was wounded in cross fire? Um, not quite...

The city officer was shot after the county officer's weapon accidentally discharged, according to authorities.

I will donate $100 to the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence if this was a true, honest "accidental" discharge as opposed to being "cop who can't keep his boogerhook off the bang switch". Oh, and "cop who can't help pointing his weapon at a fellow officer". Yes, I understand that in the heat of serving a warrant on a potentially dangerous subject, it may necessitate drawing one's sidearm. It's entirely possible that the county officer was in genuine fear for his life and/or safety and the safety of others. It's unfortunate that his training wasn't sufficient to keep him from breaking at least three of the four rules of gun safety, resulting in someone who didn't need to be shot getting shot.

Imagine, though, the outcry if a CCW holder "accidentally" shot another CCW holder while responding to a threat...

That is all.

It's pronounced Bawlmer, hon. Bawlmer Murlin.

At least it wasn't a grandfather or a kid that got shot. Sucks for the other officer, though.

'Charm City! The city that reads!'

aka: 'Bloodymore Murderland, the city that bleeds.'

They also had a very high illegitimace issue, so it was also the 'city that breeds'

Does any city in Mass have a nickname?

It's always "It discharged". Never a mention of anyone pulling the trigger. Jack.

You would think that use of any weapon that discharges without a trigger pull would be discontinued and the manufacturer sues for producing a defective product.

Admitting that potentially lethal mistakes can and do occur by those screened, trained and empowered to unholster deadly weapons without a threat of imminent harm is very difficult for some - sort of like denying the reality and magic of Santa Claus.
We do it for the children, of course.

And the funniest part of all this? They still expect us to respect them...even after this, and the towing scandal, and all the other crap they've done.

Odds are they were rival gang members, running drugs or sex slaves, and happen to also be cops. Not the slightest chance that the names will ever be made public.
