Another One for the Count!

misBehaven sends in this one from the great state of Texas:

HPD: Suspect killed during break-in
HOUSTON - A suspect accused of forcing his way into a southwest Houston apartment has been killed, investigators said.

Houston police said the deadly home invasion happened around 8:45 p.m. Thursday on Oakmoor Parkway and Airport Boulevard.
Again, the facts as reported are pretty thin, but it's worthy of note that we have a home invasion at a time where folks are pretty certain to be home. Again, it's left as an exercise to the reader what the two men had planned, given that they had to have some inkling that when they broke in, it was likely at a time when folks would be home and awake. Maybe they would have seen the error of their ways and repented of all evil - or maybe they would have killed everyone inside to leave no witnesses.

Relying on the good graces of someone already willing to break the law to get what they want is not a survival strategy.

Dead Goblin Count: 243.

That is all.

Congrats to the Houston Citizen! But something about the DGC just hit me.

Yesterday, there was a Big Protest Against the Death Penalty up in D.C., and they were whining about how about 1,277 Death Row Inmates having been Executed since the mid 70's. But the DGC been running for a couple of years, right?

So doing the Math, if you're a Goblin, and you survive the Police Arresting you, there's about 30-35 executions on average per year. If you are killed by an armed Citizen, it runs about 120 a year.

Yes, I know, we don't have all the DGC's on record, and the State Executions started off slow, and some poor bastards died due to Corrupt Politicians, but, taking all that into account, it looks to me like the Average Goblin faces a 4x higher chance of getting killed by an Armed Citizen than they do hitting the Big House.

And the Sentence is executed IMMEDIATELY, w/o any 20 years of Appeals and millions of Dollars spent keeping those Goblins alive.

So my question is this: Shouldn't we Ban the Death Penalty, and take the money saved and give 10% pro-rated to the Armed Citizen? I mean, it seems like a natural to cut back on Gooberment Waste, right? And the Armed Citizen can use the Cash to help Stimulate the Economy.

Of course, if the State ever decides to try to MATCH the Armed Citizen and gets close, well, then it's money well spent. Otherwise, let's just Privatize the Death Penalty and let the Armed Citizen distribute the Darwin Awards. It's just much more efficient.

(There, THAT should make the Brady Bunch squirm!)

Breaking into a residence is treated more severely under Texas law if it occurs after dark, precisely due to the likelihood of people being present. And we have a robust Castle Doctrine law here as well.

Why exactly are you still living in Massachusetts?
