Decisions, Decisions...

This past weekend, after getting home from SHOT Show, I realized that I should think about getting some new business cards. Which got me to thinking about redesigning my business cards - the new hawtness is a QR tag on the card, which makes a phenomenal amount of sense, frex... Also, it's time to think about a shorter, easier-to-remember URL. So I looked around, found that, sadly, www.marooned.com is not available, and asked for folks' thoughts for alternate URLs.

Well, thanks to a generous offer from Chris at Domain.com, I now have three shiny new domains:

www.ma-rooned.com
www.maroonedmedia.com
www.stuckinma.com

I've ordered them in no particular order (okay, they're alphabetical...); which of them is the best fit for the blog?

That is all.

MA-rooned.

StuckinMA is a close second.

stuckinMA

But, then again, I too am in MA....

Captcha is giving me fits, can't pass it while using my OpenID persona.

I like www.stuckinma.com personally. But www.maroonedmedia.com makes it sound like you're a serious professional (like Martha Stewart's Living Omnimedia).

Why not all of the above? Whatever you choose is just going to point back to your blog anyway, isn't it?

I'd pick the first one. Stuckinma still sounds too close to the one Uncle mentioned....

Not a fan of maroonedmedia

Does a negative vote count?

Okay, so 2:2 for ma-rooned vs. stuckinma.

Maroonedmedia was one of the suggestions when I put it in first, and it struck me for the same reasons Dave mentioned.

Again, though, the plan is to have something under 10 characters for easier surfing; something you can
"speak" to someone. Justin Buist made a decent case against "MA-rooned" in that the hyphen doesn't "speak" well - you have to say "emm aye -DASH- rooned"; which is a concern.

MA-rooned does convey exactly what I was going with in the name, though. When written out, without the proper capitalization, it looks like just the word meaning lost... with the dash, it emphasizes the play on words.

Or I'm over-thinking again...

I'll break the tie . . .

stuckinma.com

You do realize I'll need to get the custom e-mail to go with it, right?

jayg@stuckinma.com has a certain ring, don'tcha think???

My vote goes to www.stuckinma.com.

MA-rooned.com as it conveys that you live in MA and are marooned there. The-minuteman.org is hyphenated and it isn't really a big deal.

Use http://stuckinma.com as your primary domain, and then point the other two domains at it.

3 ways for readers to find your blog. WIN!!

ma-rooned

It was my first thought when you asked for suggestions, then I saw that someone beat me to the punch.

Being that stuckinma is really close to what Unc pointed out, I seriously think that an email proclaiming that jay is stuck in a place where the sun don't shine is something that should be avoided. ;-)

Personally, I like the professional-sound to maroonedmedia...it really lends an air of credibility to an already well-written and credible site. So, in order of my own personal preferences:

Maroonedmedia
Ma-rooned
Stuckinma

Pick whichever one you want as a primary domain, park the other two, and have all three point to your blog.

Easy peasy.

maroonedmedia just sounds classier to me. MA-rooned sounds too much like macaroon, or worse, "What a maroon!" StuckinMA is right out.

Okay, so at current time the tally is:

ma-rooned: 4
maroonedmedia: 2
stuckinma: 6
Uncommitted: 2

Hmmm...

ma-rooned.com Matches your blog title.

AD is right, park the other two and just have them redirect to the correct URL. (See barronbarnett.com where I first put my blog before coming up with a solid title.)

You can do the same for email addy's too. Have one real inbox and create forwards from the other addresses.

I have a LOT of different email addy's that change depending on who I'm talking to.

My 2 cents, do what you think is best, don't trust us bumbling yahoos!

And what everyone else already said on parking the other domains.

Like DaveH I like stuckinma.com but think maronned.com is more professional sounding

stuckinma means I don't have to deal with hyphens when I feed you News from the BLNN.

Not that it's all about me, of course. ; )

Hey, speaking of Over Blown Ego's, isn't Tuesday the Political Poster Day?

+1 for ma-rooned

-1 for maroonedmedia. It sounds like you're trying to be Caleb and no one wants that.

Jay G said...

I'm kinda leaning towards ma-rooned.com - it can be "spoken" as "marooned dot com: emm aye dash rooned, the dash is silent"...

bluesun said...

keep in mind the search engine will find it even if you don't put in the hyphen. Who types in URLs completely these days, anyway?

Jay G said...

Now if I could only figure out how to migrate over to the new URL...

I like stuckinma, but either one works.

If I've counted right, I'm +8 for MA-rooned.com. And I think that keeps it a tie. :)

I like StuckinMA.com.

But I have preteens at home, so I can't help thinking of how the name can be twisted... and the two thoughts that come to mind are "stuck in MA -- rhymes with f***in' MA" and (insert Southern accent) "wait, what? 'Stuck in mah' WHAT?"
