New Meme Time...

Glenn B. has a good one.
I have never seen or heard one like this before although Heaven could probably attest to the fact that it has been done before, somewhere at sometime by someone else. I am going to go ahead with it anyway and here is how to play along. I will write down 5 things that indicate, to me, that a gun owner or shooter maybe is an honest one; I say 'maybe' because I have known some seemingly honest gun owners to tell some really tall tales. Then I will tag 5 other gun owners who are also bloggers and I hope each will play along, each listing, in their blogs, at least 3 things that are indicative a gun owner is an honest one, then sending the challenge of this meme on to 5 other gun owner who are also bloggers.
Let me see. I bet I can come up with five items...

1.
You really do own guns that you've never shot, have no interest in shooting, and don't care if they ever get shot.

2. While you appreciate the military history and significance of the M1 Garand, you agree that modern rifles with detachable magazines are superior.

3. Deep down, you love buying new accessories for your AR-15/Ruger 10/22/1911 because it allows you to do work on a firearm without having to actually gunsmith.

4. You know and admit that you need to get to the range more often than you do and/or need more training.

5. You really do clean your guns as often as you pretend online...

And five bloggers to tag: I'll choose from my blogchildren:

Borepatch
Nancy R.
Merlin
PISSED
Mad Saint Jack

Don't let me down, kids!

That is all.

Hey wait, is this like one of those AA meetings? My name is Jay, and so forth?

I think our group is remarkably BS free, that is why I enjoy the company.

I can think of a few more:

1) You 'fess up to having caused a negligent discharge, with extra points for blogging about it in the hope that it'll encourage others to stay safe.

2) If you don't know, you say you don't know rather than make something up or bluster about it being "common knowledge."

3) You may host debates on which cleaner, lubricant, and protectant is best, but you're still using that quart bottle of Hoppes #9 your Dad gave you four years ago.

4) You admit that some people really do have no business owning a gun. (Or a car, or having children.) But more government is still not the solution.

5) You're not afraid to say that of all the guns in your collection, the one you have the most fun with is that cheap-@$$ Eastern Bloc pistol you got in trade for a couple of motorcycle tires.

And Jay, are you letting doubletrouble off the hook?

libertyman,

I agree on both counts! (And doubletrouble is not one of my blogchildren, at least not that I'm aware of...)

Dave H.,

Good list, especially the last one!

I can't agree with the Hoppes comment, though - but that's because I go through a quart in a couple of months... :)

To add to your number 3...

Hoppes #9 is also your favorite cologne.

I have not yet accumulated enough guns in my collection that I have any that I have not shot nor have any desire to shoot.

I do, however, have one semi-auto shotgun that I've only brought out of the gun safe to shoot one time, so maybe that would count.

Love the idea and list.

Here's my addition: You like to tell about the most amazing (skillful, not just lucky)recreational shot or shooting that you've ever seen...and you not only didn't make it but readily admit that you probably couldn't.

Bonus points if the shooter of the story is one who the listeners didn't even know was a shooter or hunter.

Jay: Thanks. I was trying to imply that not only does the honest shooter still use Hoppes, but that he doesn't clean his guns as often as he should.

Have you considered trying Ed's Red bore cleaner? I think you can buy the stuff to make a gallon for about the price of a quart of Hoppes.

Well, like Larry, I only have a handful (well, two hands worth) of guns. All get shot, but not as often as they would like. (Yes, they talk to me; don't yours?) Also, I am a tinkerer when it comes to cleaning stuff (but I still have Hoppes #9). Haven't had a ND yet, but see the part about not enough shooting. And my favorite is my CZ-75B in .40.

One that I might add is that I never put forth opinions about any gun I have not owned and/or shot more than ten times. Hearsay evidence is not acceptable. And even then, I point out that YMMV.

Wow. Five for five for me. I guess I really am honest.

1. Knows that rights are held only by individuals, and delegated powers are all that our government has.

2. Thinks it is way cool at the range to get a chance to shoot a firearm they have only ever read about, or never heard about, because the guy or gal in the next lane has one and appreciates the interest you show.

3. Offers the person who let them shoot their rarity an entire mag or two, provided by the shooter, on the commonplace 9mm or 22LR pistol that the shooter brought to the range.

4. Their kids have their own firearms. Dad asks to shoot them sometimes because they came from him in the first place. Dad supplies the ammo.

5. Concealed Handgun License gets handed to the checkout clerk or bank teller as ID, completely innocently, because it looks so much like the Driver License and, hey, it is Texas so nobody even bats an eye unless renewal time is coming up.
