DC group calls for closure of Heart Attack Grill
LAS VEGAS – A Washington, D.C.-based health advocacy group is asking the owner of a Las Vegas restaurant that prides itself on unhealthy meals to shut down after a customer suffered a medical episode and was hospitalized.I've got two words for the PCfRM and they rhyme with "duck cough". Take your supercilious sanctimony and shove it straight up your ass. No one grabbed that guy and dragged him into the Heart Attack Grill. They didn't stick a gun to his head and force him to eat the burger. What's more, even if they did, if he lived an even moderately healthy lifestyle the odds are overwhelmingly likely that one burger wouldn't have made a lick of difference.
Officials for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine said Thursday they sent a letter to Heart Attack Grill owner Jon Basso, asking him to "declare moral bankruptcy" and close the restaurant.
But that doesn't stop the nanny, oh hell no. Nothing is ever our fault; obviously it's the fault of the evil restaurant for offering food other than celery and tofu that this guy ate himself into a myocardial infarction. Maybe that's it! Start up a restaurant called "FIBER", sell nothing but bamboo sprouts and tofu squares, and watch the money roll in from DC physicians! Yeah!
Gah. I am so sick of those that would save us from ourselves.
That is all.

Has anybody even determined if it was what the guy ate that caused the heart attack? People keel over in restaurants (and everyplace else, for that matter) all the time.
Nanny is also an attention whore it seems.
This is why really sucessful Doctors know enough to have a Business Professional run thier practice.
The Doctors should be offerenig a 10% discount on corinary shunts and a Referral Fee for the resturants customers .... and maybe negotate for business card placement directly on the Menu...
I like my cookbook by Steve Graham "Eat what you want and die like a man". There are some great recipes there.
Just wait until bacon packages come with warnings on them!
All this healthful dining business makes me sick!
"duck cough" was priceless. I'm going to remember that one.
If people getting ill inside restaurants was a criteria for closing them, than Legal Sea Foods would have been boarded up 20 years ago.
Doctors should know that correlation doesn't equal causation. Especially, when it's a one time incident.
And "duck cough" is terrific. I plan to use it on my last day at work. Actually, any day I use it is likely to be my last day.
The PCRM, of course, is PETA-affiliated. They share the same dietary views, and crusade for them on a regular basis. I'm not positive how closely the organizations are tied together, but I know PETA quotes the PCRM quite frequently to support their claims that vegetarianism is the only healthy diet. News outlets tend to quote them as though they are unbiased, which of course is laughable.
What does "declaring moral bankruptcy" mean, anyway, and what gives anyone the right to demand it of another?
I mean, seriously. Does that mean that all my moral obligations are discharged? Do I have to cut all my moral credit cards in half? Am I no longer responsible for my moral student loans?
Sometimes I wish people would think more carefully about the connotations of what they say. (On the other hand, if they did, what wonderful comedic opportunities we'd miss.)
cheers,
