Yep, You Guessed It - More Lasers!

I mentioned getting a Crimson Trace LightGuard for the S&W M&P45 a few weeks back, and in the comments to that post, Will Brown asked an excellent question:
From the photo, it looks like the LightGuard activation switch is located in the same place on the grip as is the CT Laser Grip's. Is there actually room for the LightGuard to fit over the Laser Grip "on" button? The battery life is ridiculously long on the laser, but having the flashlight spontaneously turning it on in the holster/nightstand drawer can't be a good thing.
I checked the Crimson Trace website, and the Lasergrip for the M&P full size is activated by a button on the back of the grip, so there's no overlap. I was curious, though, how the dual activation works, and Iain came through for me once again:

Decked-out M&P

The laser grips really look great - you have to look twice to even notice that they're not the S&W standard issue grips, and the feel is very much the same as the S&W backstrap. Activation is just as effortless as previous laser grips from Crimson Trace, with the laser coming on with light pressure on the grip. I took a short iPhone video of the two together:

Please note (Mopar) that I'm holding the M&P in my left hand. Both the LightGuard and the laser grips are being toggled on and off by a normal grip on the handgun - with my weak hand. I'm deliberately toggling the light on and off to illustrate the amount of light the unit throws. The hallway goes from pitch-black to well-lit with the simple touch of a button - and now there's a laser dot to go with the bright light.

Once I get the laser sight dialed in, I'd say this would make the perfect house gun...

That is all.

I confess to being a triffle Colt-centric here; the activation button on the CT grip for my Colt Commander is in the front under the trigger guard. Or maybe it's just evidence of my failure to keep up; I've had the same grip on my main carry gun for 5 years or more (same battery too - that observation was an informed one at least), so the basic CT design probably has changed quite a lot.

FWIW my S&W Bodyguard has CT grips also and the activation button is on the front there too. Haven't looked to see if CT is offering a light for short barrel six shooters or not, but this might be a potential design conflict to check for even if it's not relevant to Jay's present example.

So, there you go Jay, more blog fodder should you come up a bit short some day. :)
