Does It Surprise *ANYONE*?

Obamacare's Insurance Rule Is Upheld by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court, in a landmark ruling Thursday, upheld President Obama's health care overhaul, including the controversial requirement that all Americans have health insurance.
The court on Thursday handed Obama a campaign-season victory in rejecting arguments that Congress went too far in requiring most Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty.
After the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, McCain-Feingold in 2002, and Kelo vs. New London ruling, does this really surprise anyone? Chief Justice Roberts joined the four liberal-leaning judges in ruling for Obamacare, which is rather surprising given the vehemence with which the left opposed him, but then again, he was appointed by a Bush (SOUTER!). I'd like to say this surprised me, but I've also been paying attention the past, oh, 20 or so years.

I'm also going to go out on a limb here and predict that the vote to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt will either not happen or will fail. I don't see the Stupid Party having the stones to proceed with the vote, given that the media push has been largely successful in framing this as a non-story. The average American has the impression that this was a failed ATF operation and nothing more, so there's no need to punish the AG.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but I just don't see it happening - and I've already been right about one vote today...

That is all.

There is talk among the pundits that this isn't an end-game, as the law can simply be repealed through the normal channels.

But we know Obama won't stand for his ONE achievement being overturned, and I doubt Romney will want to repeal a law HE WROTE.

But maybe after Obama's 2nd Turn Rand Paul will beat Presidential Hopeful Joe Biden like a rented mule, and then do the right thing.

A boy can dream....

If Obamacare was presented to the Supremes as a tax, it was the right call. Congress has the right to tax, and they love to use that right.

The funny(sad) thing was that Obamacare was sold to the US voters as a service mandate which it has no right to demand.

So somewhere along the line the MSM and the Democrats played three card monty with us and got away with it for now.

The silver lining is taxes can be removed by a simple majority if PROTUS goes along with it.

Obama will veto it. What will Romney do?

Except Congress' power to tax is to collect monies for constitutional law.

They have no power to collect taxes to fund unconstitutional laws and the black-robed morons didn't even consider that part.

We're doomed.

I'm buying a larger oven so that I can be comfortable while I am being cremated.

Nothing done in my lifetime is scarier than this decision.

WE will now be taxed for deciding NOT to buy something.

This is no longer The United States of America, it is a mere faint whisper of what was started 200 years ago. John Roberts has proven that you cannot allow ANYONE to appoint your judges for life, because there is no recourse when they get stupid.

It is time for flyoever country to secede, and allow the two coasts to self disentegrate.

Discussion happening on the House Floor as I write this, the Congressional Black Caucus plans on a walkout, looks like it's gonna happen.

Not that it means anything, since it'll be the job of the D.C. District Attorney to recommend to the Attorney General that he needs to prosecute the ....Attorney General.

"Mr. Holder, I need to Prosecute Mr. Holder because Mr. Holder is in Contempt of Congress."

Right.

This is FDR all over again....

Social Security was sold to the public as a retirement fund in your own name, with your own money, etc...and when it was challenged SCOTUS was toldby the gubmint lawyers that it was simply a general tax, and Congress has power to lay and collect.

OBambi did the same thing, with a willing media. Sell it as *health insurance*, insist up and down that its NOT A TAX, have your lawyers argue in court that its NOT AN INDIVIDUAL MANDATE BUT SIMPLY A GENERAL TAX, and SCOTUS says *Hey, its just a tax? Well then, that's OK, because Congress can tax whatever they want.*

Congress simply decided to tax you for not doing something.

Now...if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, its a duck. We're being forced to spend money, period.

So I say we take the Libs down the shitter with us...we need to pass a law that taxes everyone who does not own a shotgun for home protection, and a handgun for personal protection outside the home. The impetus for this is the fact that he police can't be everywhere, and it would cost zillions of dollars to hire enough police to ensure safety.

Every person in the home has to be covered also, so if there are 2 parents and 5 kids, that's 1 shottie and 7 handguns. If a family cannot prove they have enough guns for everyone, then they need to be taxed appropriately for the burden they place on their fellow taxpayers vis-a-vis the exorbitant taxes needed to provide enough police to protect them.

Yeah...I think that if we screw the libs by taxing them for what THEY don't want to buy (just like they are now able to tax folks who do not want insurance in order to compel them to buy aginst their will) that will drive home the point of how stupid their law is, and the can of worms that their law just opened with the affirmation of SCOTUS.

You think that today was a bad decision? Go forth and read "The Dirty Dozen." I assure you it has *nothing* to do with Lee Marvin.

It's Wickard vs. Filburn all over again (aka the eat wheat case). However, as I understand it, because it is a "tax", Congress does not require a super-majority to repeal or defund the beast. *shrug* and the sun is still rising this morning.

No, I'm not happy and yes, I'm going to do my best in the ways I can to get this thing undone, but I's still going to work this AM.
