Oh, Now *THIS* Is Interesting...

Another dispatch from the BLNN, this time with something I found supremely ironic:

Police: 'Stand ground' man shot dead in Miami
MIAMI – A man who won a controversial ruling under Florida's "stand your ground" self-defense law three months ago was fatally shot when he got caught in the crossfire of a gang shooting, police and local reports said Wednesday.
Greyston Garcia, 26, was driving home from his convenience store job late Tuesday when gunfire erupted between gang members, The Miami Herald and local TV stations reported.
The "controversial ruling" is that he chased down a guy who stole the stereo out of his truck and wound up stabbing him to death when the dude attacked him. He was cleared of murder charges under the "Stand Your Ground" statue, which is interesting considering that he allegedly hid the murder weapon and didn't report the incident. Regardless, there's a fundamental issue in this story that the media - even ZOMG REICH WING FAUX NEWS - missed.

Why didn't this story receive the Zimmerman treatment?

Look at the facts of this story. He actively chased down a guy for stealing his car stereo armed with a weapon. If that's not equally bad or worse to what Zimmerman did, then you must be a Democrat or gun-grabber... This case is even more vague than the Zimmerman/Martin dustup, yet it received, what, about a billionth the coverage. Why is that, do you suppose? Is it because there's no multimillion dollar Soros group devoted to knife control (yet)?

Why do we focus so much on the tool used? Weerdbeard has a running tally of people injured or killed by means other than firearms - knifes, blunt objects, fists, zip ties, etc. - yet none of these objects are debated 1/1000th as much as firearms. Oh, sure, once in a blue moon the city of Boston will do something stupid about knives, or the foolishness of "stab-free" knives in England, but for the most part, it's ZOMG TEH EBIL GUNS and the rest of those tools are fine.

Just to flagellate the deceased equine a little further: As long as we focus on the tool used rather than the person using it, we'll miss the point and crime will continue to rise. By holding up ZOMG GUN as the be-all, end-all means to crime, it absolves the goblin of their duty to remain law-abiding by shifting the blame to an object rather than the person misusing the object. There is, quite simply, only one reason why lawmakers picked up the anti-gun torch and ran with it:

They know the real meaning of the Second Amendment, and it scares them.

That is all.

Part of the reason is that they somehow think that the 1st Amendment is something that cannot ever be suppressed. They are not thinking hard enough.
