Judge refuses to block Florida voter purge
Yeah, see, that's the problem, isn't it? The US DOJ was jumping up and down screaming that it was too close to an election - except that the law doesn't say squat about removing "Mickey Mouse" from the rolls. If they're not supposed to be on the voter registration list, it doesn't matter howclose to the election the purge takes place. Could be the night before - if the "voter" doesn't belong on the list, they're gone. End of story.TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A federal judge has refused to stop Florida from removing potentially non-U.S. citizens from its rolls. The U.S. Department of Justice sued the state to halt the purge, arguing it was going on too close to a federal election.U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle said Wednesday that there was nothing in federal voting laws that prevent the state from identifying non-U.S. citizens even if it comes less than 90 days before the Aug. 14 election.
It's hard to imagine a legitimate reason why anyone would object to this, it really is. If the aim is to have a vote that's accurate and efficient, doesn't it make sense to remove folks that shouldn't be on the list? If there's reason to suspect an entry is fraudulent - like giving an address of a vacant lot, or the name doesn't match any previous occupant of the city/town, etc. - why wouldn't you want them off the registration list?
Now, it would be very instructive indeed if someone were to follow this up to see if a certain political party suddenly gets a *lot* fewer votes this time around...
That is all.

I can think of one good reason to object to the timing of the purge. If a legitimate voter is removed from the rolls accidentally, he's going to need time to get it corrected or else he'll miss his chance to vote.
Personally I'd prefer to see notifications sent out to purge candidates something like 90 days before the election, giving people 30 or 45 days to dispute them. If they don't respond in time then they'll have to re-register, but it'll be too late for the next election.
Unfortunately, it will probably be appealed, and the way THAT STUPID IDIOT ROBERTS IS VOTING, SCOTUS will probably say " It's UNFAIR that Illegal Voters don't have the right to elect Free Cheese Distributors to Public Office."
Dave, I'm assuming this is aimed at the national rather than the primaries? Or have I missed something?

Recent elections have shown that in some states electoral college selections have been made based on majorities of only a few thousand votes. When the stakes are high and there is a large potential of voter fraud then it is wise to verify to ensure a fair election. After all, we are not talking about people accustomed to Chicago politics or .... er, never mind.
Besides, Jimmy Carter cannot be everywhere.
