Thursday, my last day at SHOT Shot 2012 (it went until Friday but the flight home left at 10 AM, which gave me enough time to check out and get to the airport...), I was starting to get the pattern down. Wake up, shower, shave, get dressed and packed up for the day; hoof it downstairs to the McD's in the hotel for a large coffee, and hightail it out to the bus tour area for the bus to the convention center. I knew where everything was, I was in sync with the time difference, I had the routine down.
As all business travelers know, that means that the trip was just about over...
My first stop took me to the North American Arms booth to see what was new and/or exciting. Turns out they have "Cub Scout" revolvers. What does that mean? It means they have:
Blue
Gold
Heh. They also have a new model out for target shooting and varminting, the Sheriff:
Sheriff
Next up was the Colt booth, to check out the magnificent Gatling gun:
Colt Gatling Gun
The gentleman behind the Gatling gun was the caretaker, who pointed out the emblem:
Gatling Badge
Boy, but that one would have been fun on range day...
Next up were tactical shotguns:
Tactical Shotties
The Stevens line of home defense-themed shotguns; these are part of the Savage umbrella now. There was also a company there that made kits for the Mossberg 500 to accept a detachable magazine:
Shotguns with Magazines
Boy, that's tempting...
There were guns with optics:
Glock with Micro T-1
Well, technically, this is a mock-up (Glock-up?) to showcase the new Micro T-1 light from Aimpoint. It's really slick:
Aimpoint View
The sight is really small but gives a very clear dot that's just blazing fast to pick up. I imagine this would be a fun sight to play with in a steel challenge course...
And the non-sequitor of the show:
High Tech SAA
Yep. A Freedom Arms single action revolver with a Leupold red dot sight. See? I'm not the only crazy one out there...
And, lastly, some generally neat stuff:
Confederate 442
Another custom Smith & Wesson revolver from the folks at Lew Horton Distributing.
Zombies!
Yes, you guessed it, even more zombie stuff!
Big 50
Steyr HS 50 .50 BMG bolt action rifle - with side-loading magazine!
Not Your Dad’s Buck Knives
More stabby for Roadkill. These are Buck knives - they're not just Dad's whittlin' blades any more!
300 Blackout
Closing out is the new SU-16 from Kel-Tec in .300 AAC Blackout.
Thus closes out my coverage of the 2012 NSSF SHOT Show. I had an amazingly good time at the show, managed to not get escorted off the premises for hecking the GA guys or the HS Precision folks (their booth was about as empty as it was at the two previous NRA conventions...), and took nearly a thousand pictures. More will be cropping up from time to time; this is by no means all of them...
Now, to plan for the 2012 NRA convention next...
That is all.

Excellent report from our own cub reporter!
Anyone knows if those magazines for the Mossberg shotguns require any permanent modifications to the gun?
You MAY get a job with the BLNN for your work.
As soon as I have enough money to pay myself, that is. ; )
Serious time. Do some research into the CCW/OC Laws of Missouri and the City of St. Louis before you go. And for God's sake, DON'T go across the River to East St. Louis for ANY reason. It's worse than Mogadishu, Somalia!
Thanks Libertyman!
Sebastian,
I don't believe that it requires any permanent modification (I'll check the website when I get home; I've got the company's business info in my pile 'o' SHOT stuff).
Les,
I've done a little checking, and believe me I know better than to venture into Mordor... ;)
From what I can tell, MO has lots of places you aren't supposed to carry, but the penalty is basically being asked to leave...
For some inexplicable reason, i find myself drawn to that S&W 442 ...
Is the Gatling Gun Mass-hole legal?
If so will you get a pintle mount on your pickup? I can see you behind the Gatling with Mrs. G at the helm while Boy and Girl G hand you fresh magazines.
Add me to the list of people who'd like to know more about that Mossburg conversion.
"There was also a company there that made kits for the Mossberg 500 to accept a detachable magazine"
Well I declare, the Knoxx Sidewinder may rise again!
It's not a truly permanent mod but it might as well be. Not that it's all that difficult to install, but by the time you get the original mag tube off and get the new magwell to hang straight (kit comes with a receiver reamer) and locktite it down you'll probably want to leave it that way.
Did you get a chance to shoulder that Steyr HS .50? Seems like if you were holding it a little off, you could catch an arm/face full of magazine on the recoil, but maybe that is just foreshortening...
