Third Time's The Charm!

After two runners-up, reader Tim sends in a DGC addition:

Police: 84-year-old man kills intruder

HAMILTON — An 84-year-old man shot and killed an elderly intruder at his home in the 2700 block of Hilda Avenue Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers discovered the body after they were summoned to the residence about 10 a.m. when the homeowner called 911, said Officer Kristy Collins, spokeswoman for Hamilton police.

This sounds like a real tragic story. The man who was killed was a 75 year old man with dementia and Alzheimer's. He crashed a car into the garage, then went to the front door and pushed his way in. He went down into the homeowner's basement, where he started wrecking things. The homeowner confronted him, and was beaten for his trouble. That's when he was shot. I question why a 75 year old man suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's still had a valid driver's license and access to a car, but that's immaterial to this DGC addition...

Dead Goblin Count: 233

That is all.

Sadly, a followup story says the prosecutor is still going to send the case to a grand jury. So bad enough this poor guy has a damaged garage to repair, a trashed and bloodied basement to clean up and fix, maybe vet bills from the cat that was kicked as well as hospital bills for himself (he was injured on both hands from the guy swinging a board with a nail sticking out) and probaby a handgun that needs to be replaced since the cops took his as evidence. No, that wasn't bad enough, now he needs to lay out thousands of dollars more for a lawyer too.

The shooter should not have to suffer a prosecution because the demented man was in his house endangering everyone there. However, this should probably not be an addition to the DGC simply because the demented man was not really a goblin. He was the victim of a horrible disease who wound up in circumstances that were essentially beyond his control.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't count this one either. A disease like that takes away your ability to reason.
