Another Photo-Op...

Gerry sends in this link, which while it should surprise me, it doesn't:

Obama’s Memorial Day Photo-Op Blocks Families, Vets From D.C. Vietnam Memorial Wall For 7 Hours

In a marked departure from previous administrations, President Obama closed off access to the Vietnam memorial in Washington DC on Memorial Day so that he could give a 15 minute "speech". From early morning until 3 PM, access to the memorial was restricted to security staff and pre-selected media members and Democrats (but I repeat myself) while veterans wishing to pay their respects to fallen comrades waited 100 yards away.

It's understandable that security measures need to be taken. Whether or not the speech needed to be made on Memorial Day, with restricted access, is the issue - was the decision to restrict veteran's access to one of the most recognizable memorials on Memorial Day made with re-election in mind for President Obama? Could things have been arranged differently? Should they? One thing is crystal clear, though. With the mainstream media running interference for him, he's got nothing to fear from bad publicity...

I mean, it's not like he was holding a plastic turkey or anything, right?

That is all.

Maybe the MSM has the President's back, but members of his own party are publicly questioning some of his campaign's tactics. Even fundraiser extraordinaire Bill Clinton.

I'm starting to wonder if there's a bit of elitism going on within the party. Clinton could get away with speaking like that because they need him more than he needs them, but other Dems have spoken up too.

You do know that the "plastic" turkey was actually a real bird, a centerpiece for the dining hall meal, right?

You do know that the Commander in Chief served turkey to the soldiers from the steam tables, don't you?

You do know the troops there absolutely loved the surprise appearance of their President, right?

You do know, don't you, that when Hillary was photographed with troops on similar visits, she got the secret crossed fingers signal from soldiers in her publicly released photos. The crossed fingers previously were used by POWs to indicate they were operating under duress, and by these soldiers for the same reason.

The plastic turkey is a well-debunked meme whose propagation through the blogosphere has been used as a quick test for Bush Derangement Syndrome.

This is what pissed me off about Memorial Day, politicians.

Memorial Day/ Decoration Day is for the American public (and our allies) and the military, not for politicians. Politicians get Flag Day, the 4th of July, and they borrow Veterans Day as well as 363 other days. If you are an elected official, just butt out of Memorial Day except as an ordinary citizen, UNLESS you are invited.
